U.S. Peace Dollars 1921 to 1935

The Peace Dollars is a United States dollar coin minted from 1921 to 1928, then again in 1934 and 1935. It was designed by a young Italian immigrant named Anthony de Francisci. The portrait of Miss Liberty was modeled after his young wife Teresa.

The Peace Dollar is named so because the word 'peace' appears on the bottom of the reverse of the coin. The reverse also depicts a perched bald eagle.

The entire run of Peace dollars consists of just 24 coins, none of them great rarities. Mintmarks appear underneath the word One on the reverse. Mintmarks include: Blank (P - Philadelphia Mint in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), D (Denver Mint in Denver, Colorado), and S (San Francisco Mint in San Francisco, California).

The best place to purchase Peace Dollars is at eBay. Most of these coins are not that expensive except in the better grades and no raritys exist except for the 1924-S, 1925-S and 1928. You should be able to find many nice specimens for your collection in the $15.00 to $30.00 range. Mixed rolls can be purchased for $250.00 to $300.00 and a great way to start a collection.
